Hello again ...

Hi peeps. Been a while since the last post. Have been busy but the honest truth is I've run out of things to write .... at least on this blog. I was contemplating of shutting this blog but I thought some of the info might still prove useful to some. So I will keep this blog accessible online but won't be updating much or at all.

Our family now has a new addition, a baby brother for Alesha. We couldn't be more happier and we thank God for this little miracle. 2008 has been a very good year for us and we hope this year brings more or less the same if not better things for our family.

Happy New Year to all of you. A little late, but as they say, better late than never.

Happy Eid

We celebrated Eid here on Tuesday, 30th Sept. Wasn't expecting it to take place a day earlier but all the same, this joyous occasion turned out well for our family. First day Raya we had a big feast at a friend's place in Kirchdorf, followed by a celebratory dinner by a Malaysian family near Brugg.

The next day was spent at the Ambassador's Residence in Bern. The food was absolutely delicious, and the weather surprisingly pleasant for feasting out in the vast garden. This was followed by dinner at another Malaysian family's crib in Wettingen.

We had our open house just last Saturday. Turnout was good. Penat jgn cakap, tapi happy.

Suffice to say, we've been stuffed silly with Raya food. And more to come this weekend and the next. Raya sebulan lah katakan...

Happy Eid to all!

The mad dash Pt. 2

Continuing from the previous post, we were treated to a sumptuous dinner at a halal Thai restaurant somewhere close on our first night in Romford. Can't remember the exact location now nor the name, but the food was absolutely brilliant. That is one thing that London will always have an advantage over Zurich or any city in Switzerland for that matter --- the availability of all kinds of halal eateries.

Our initial plan was to spend just one night in Romford but we made a last minute decision to stay until Sunday when our host told us there was going to be a big-scale Merdeka celebration on Saturday, which meant we had an extra day on Friday to go around and get reacquainted with central London all over again.

For practical reason, we left the car in Romford and took the train. Couldn't really decide where to go so ended up in Portobello Rd and took the red bus later to Edgware Rd and Marble Arch for lunch and a bit of shopping. We were craving for Malaysian food but Mawar (now Melur apparently) was closed for refurbishment and Satay House was full so we had kebab instead. Not so nice but it had to do cuz we were just so hungry at that point.

Saturday, 30th August

Still in Romford
Merdeka celebration in Brickendonbury

To be honest, we were there mainly for the food.... the glorious food! The bonus was bumping into a couple of friends from our past who were there apparently for the same reason.

Sunday, 31st August
Romford to Brussels via Calais
Distance: 236 miles
EDT: 4 hrs 40 mins

We left Romford very early in the morning for Folkestones in order to make it to our Eurotunnel check-in on time. We got there early and was allowed to board the 8-something train and arrived in Calais at roughly 10am (France is one hour ahead of GMT). Had breakfast at a rest stop and continued our journey to Brussels, the last pit stop in our mad dash. Since we were ahead of schedule, we made a short stop in Brugge just to see what the place is like. From there, it was just another hour on the road to Brussels. In Brussels, we stayed at Hotel Erasme near ULB (Universite Libre de Bruxelles), which is located in the outskirts but is conveniently accessible to and from the city via a direct metro link. The station is only 3 to 4 mins walk from the hotel.

Monday, 1st September
Back in Baden after a 6-hour journey with various stops along the way.
